Laylat al-Qadr is the Ramadan night associated with the Quran’s first revelation.
The name is commonly translated as “Night of Decree” or “Night of Power.” The Quran describes it as better than a thousand months, giving it exceptional importance in Islamic worship and devotion.
Laylat al-Qadr is traditionally sought during the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially the odd-numbered nights. Its exact date is not universally fixed, which encourages worship throughout that period rather than limiting observance to one guaranteed night.
It is sometimes identified in popular calendars with the 27th night of Ramadan, but that is a common tradition rather than a universally agreed date. Laylat al-Qadr should also not be confused with Isra and Mi'raj, another major event in Islamic tradition.
