What is the southern terminus of Taiwan High Speed Rail?

The story behind the answer

The southern terminus of Taiwan High Speed Rail is Zuoying.

Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) is a single high-speed line running roughly 350 kilometers along Taiwan’s western corridor. Its southern endpoint is Zuoying HSR station in Kaohsiung, while the northern end is Nangang in Taipei City.

The station opened for THSR service on January 5, 2007, when the initial Taipei–Zuoying operation began. Zuoying is also an important interchange: the complex connects THSR with Taiwan Railways’ Xinzuoying station and the Kaohsiung Metro. The THSR facility is often called Zuoying, whereas the conventional railway station uses the name Xinzuoying, meaning “New Zuoying.”

A common mix-up is choosing Kaohsiung Main Station. That station serves conventional rail and urban transport, but it is not the southern terminus of THSR. Tainan is the next THSR station to the north; Zuoying lies about 31 kilometers farther south on the line.
