Answer
Beijing–Tianjin intercity railway
China’s first high-speed railway line, opened in 2008 between Beijing and Tianjin, was the Beijing–Tianjin intercity railway. The passenger-only line was built to provide a rapid connection between China’s capital and the major port city of Tianjin.
The railway opened on August 1, 2008, shortly before the Beijing Olympics. Its launch reduced the typical rail journey between the two cities from roughly 70 minutes to about 30 minutes, demonstrating the potential of China’s rapidly expanding high-speed network.
The line is about 117 kilometres long and was designed for trains capable of much higher speeds than conventional rail services. During testing in 2008, trains reached well above the initial commercial operating speed. It is often confused with the later Beijing–Shanghai high-speed railway, but that much longer route opened in 2011.
