What is the principal genre listed for Taylor Swift’s “august”?

Dream pop is the principal genre listed for Taylor Swift’s “august.”

Dream pop is known for atmospheric textures, soft vocals, layered sounds, and an emphasis on mood. Those qualities fit “august,” whose production creates a hazy, sunlit feeling rather than a sharply defined dance or rock arrangement.

The song is also associated with guitar pop and soft rock in its genre descriptions. Its acoustic and electric guitar parts, reverberant vocals, and gradual dynamic movement give it a warm but slightly distant character.

The track’s genre label is not the same as its lyrical subject. “august” is a narrative about a fleeting relationship, while dream pop describes the sonic approach used to present that story. It is also not a country-pop recording, despite Swift’s early career in country music.
