Bulbasaur is Pokédex number 001 in the Pokémon series.
Bulbasaur is one of the three selectable partner Pokémon in Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and their remakes. It is classified as a dual Grass- and Poison-type Pokémon, and a plant bulb grows on its back from birth.
Its number places it at the beginning of the original National Pokédex sequence. Bulbasaur evolves into Ivysaur at level 16 and then into Venusaur at level 32, forming one of the franchise's earliest three-stage evolutionary lines.
Players sometimes confuse Bulbasaur's Pokédex number with Pikachu's, which is 025, or Charmander's, which is 004. Bulbasaur is also notable because it is the first entry in the original numerical Pokédex, although the games' opening choice of starter Pokémon does not always make it the first creature encountered by every player.
