What is the only product Elvis Presley ever did a live TV commercial for?

The story behind the answer

The only product Elvis Presley is widely credited with endorsing in a live commercial was Southern Maid Donuts. The young singer promoted the Louisiana-based doughnut chain during his early appearances on the Louisiana Hayride in 1954.

The advertisement was not a polished studio production like a modern television commercial. Reports describe an on-stage promotional spot in which performers praised freshly prepared doughnuts, sometimes improvising their comments for the live audience. Elvis also sang a short jingle about getting the doughnuts “piping hot after four PM.”

The commercial is notable because Presley’s endorsement history was remarkably limited. He became one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world, but Southern Maid Donuts remains the product most consistently identified as his sole commercial endorsement.

Southern Maid began in Texas in 1937 and expanded through franchised shops, including a prominent early location in Shreveport, Louisiana. No known recording of Elvis’s original doughnut advertisement is confirmed to survive, although recordings of other performers’ Southern Maid spots do exist.
