Answer
Centre William Rappard
Answer
Centre William Rappard
The official name of the WTO building in Geneva is Centre William Rappard.
The Centre William Rappard was completed in 1926 and was named after William Rappard, a Swiss diplomat and academic who helped establish Geneva as a center for international cooperation. The building originally housed the International Labour Organization.
The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade moved into the building in 1977. After the WTO was created in 1995, the organization continued using the site as part of its Geneva headquarters. The WTO campus has since expanded with additional buildings and conference facilities.
The Centre William Rappard is sometimes mistaken for the Palais des Nations, which is the main Geneva home of the United Nations Office. The two sites are separate. The building’s interior also contains works of art and gifts connected with international organizations and member governments.
