What is the official name of the federal body coordinating America250?

The United States Semiquincentennial Commission is the federal body coordinating America250.

Congress created the commission to promote and coordinate the 250th anniversary of American independence. Its work is intended to connect federal agencies, states, communities, historical organizations, and the public around the 2026 commemoration.

The commission was established in 2016, eight years before the anniversary. It operates under a congressional mandate and uses the America250 name in public-facing work. The American Battlefield Trust was selected in 2018 to serve as its administrative secretariat and nonprofit partner.

The commission is distinct from earlier anniversary organizations such as the United States Centennial Commission, which organized the 1876 centennial. It is also separate from private local committees planning celebrations in individual cities and states.
