What is the official English title of Ireland’s national anthem?
Answer
The Soldier’s Song
Answer
The Soldier’s Song
The official English title of Ireland’s national anthem is “The Soldier’s Song.”
Its Irish title is “Amhrán na bhFiann,” and the anthem is generally sung in Irish at official occasions. Peadar Kearney wrote the original English lyrics, while Kearney and Patrick Heeney are associated with the song’s composition. Liam Ó Rinn translated the lyrics into Irish.
The song was first published in 1912 and became associated with Irish republican forces during the Easter Rising and the War of Independence. The Irish Free State adopted it as its national anthem in 1926.
“Ireland’s Call” is a different rugby song, not Ireland’s official national anthem. The anthem’s English title can therefore be confused with other well-known patriotic songs connected with Irish identity.
