What is the name of the world’s largest hot desert?
Answer
Sahara Desert
Answer
Sahara Desert
The Sahara Desert is the world’s largest hot desert.
It covers much of North Africa, stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to the Red Sea and from the Mediterranean region toward the Sahel. Its area is commonly given as about 9.2 million square kilometres, though the exact boundary changes depending on how drylands are defined.
The Sahara is the largest hot desert, but it is not the largest desert overall. Antarctica is larger and is classified as a cold desert because it receives very little precipitation. The Sahara contains sand seas, gravel plains, rocky plateaus and mountain ranges, so the image of a desert made entirely of dunes is inaccurate.
