The Pogues are the working-class friend group at the center of Outer Banks Season 5.
The Pogues are the core group of young characters who drive the series’ treasure hunts and adventures. John B, Kiara, Pope, and their friends belong to this community on the less wealthy side of the fictional island of Kildare. Their loyalty to one another is one of the show’s defining themes.
The group’s name is contrasted with “Kooks,” the term used for wealthy island residents. This social division is present from the opening episodes and remains important as the story reaches its final season. The Pogues’ adventures expand from local mysteries to international treasure hunts, but their group identity remains central.
The Pogues should not be confused with the Kooks or with the name of a real band. In Outer Banks, “Pogues” is the label for the main friend group and the protagonists of the story.
