What is the name of the women's Tour de France launched in 2022?

The story behind the answer

The women’s Tour de France launched in 2022 as the Tour de France Femmes.

Amaury Sport Organisation introduced the modern race after women’s cycling had spent decades without a comparable multi-stage event carrying the Tour de France name. The inaugural edition began on 24 July 2022 on the Champs-Élysées, immediately after the men’s Tour finished its Paris stage, and ran for eight stages.

Its official sponsored name was Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, but “Tour de France Femmes” is the race’s standard short name and the canonical answer to this question. Annemiek van Vleuten won the inaugural general classification after the race finished at La Planche des Belles Filles.

La Course by Le Tour de France was a predecessor one-day women’s event, while the Giro d’Italia Women is a separate Italian stage race. The new Tour was designed as a sustained French women’s counterpart rather than a single-day exhibition.
