Hogsmeade is the wizarding village near Hogwarts in J.K. Rowling’s books.
Hogsmeade is described as the only entirely wizarding village in Britain. It lies near Hogwarts and contains locations including the Three Broomsticks Inn, Honeydukes sweetshop, Zonko’s Joke Shop, and the Hog’s Head Inn. Hogwarts students can visit it during supervised weekend trips after receiving permission.
The village first becomes especially important in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, when Harry is unable to visit because he lacks a signed permission form. The setting later becomes connected with secret meetings and resistance activity during the series’ darker events.
Hogsmeade is commonly confused with Diagon Alley, the London shopping district, and Godric’s Hollow, a village with important historical links to Harry’s family. Little Whinging, meanwhile, is the Surrey setting where Harry lives with the Dursleys.
