Quidditch is the wizarding sport played on flying broomsticks in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter world.
A Quidditch team has seven players: three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper and one Seeker. Players fly around a pitch while using magical balls, including the Quaffle, Bludgers and Golden Snitch. The Seeker who catches the Snitch normally earns 150 points and ends the match, although the team with more points wins.
Harry Potter becomes Gryffindor’s Seeker at Hogwarts and plays a central role in several school matches. The sport combines team scoring with the dramatic individual pursuit of the Snitch.
Quidditch is not the same as Muggle Quidditch, a later real-world adaptation played without flying. The fictional sport also differs from Gobstones and Exploding Snap, which are separate wizarding games mentioned in the books.
