Quidditch is the wizarding sport played on broomsticks in the Harry Potter books. Two teams compete in the air using four kinds of balls: a Quaffle, two Bludgers, and a Golden Snitch.
A Quidditch team has seven players: three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker. Chasers score through the opposing team’s three hoops, Beaters defend their teammates from Bludgers, the Keeper guards the hoops, and the Seeker pursues the Snitch.
The sport is a major part of Harry’s life at Hogwarts, where he plays Seeker for Gryffindor. Quidditch is sometimes confused with Muggle sports such as rugby or football, but its airborne rules and magical equipment make it distinct. The companion book Quidditch Through the Ages presents an in-world history of the game.
