What is the name of the wizarding bank located in Diagon Alley in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter world?

The story behind the answer

Gringotts Wizarding Bank is the goblin-run bank located in Diagon Alley in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter world.

Harry first visits Gringotts with Rubeus Hagrid in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The bank stores wizard money and valuables in underground vaults protected by locks, enchantments and, in some cases, dragons. Goblins operate the institution, with Griphook serving as a notable employee.

Gringotts becomes crucial to the plot when Harry’s vault contains his money and when the trio break into a Lestrange vault in Deathly Hallows. A fragment of Voldemort’s soul, a Horcrux, is hidden there.

The name is fictional and distinct from Diagon Alley shops such as Ollivanders and Flourish and Blotts. In the films, exterior scenes used Australia House in London.
