What is the name of the trade bloc comprising Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan?

The story behind the answer

The trade bloc comprising Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan is the Eurasian Economic Union, or EAEU.

The EAEU is a regional economic integration organization designed to support the free movement of goods, services, capital, and labor among its members. It grew out of earlier post-Soviet integration projects, including the customs union formed by Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia. The Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union was signed in 2014, and the union began operating in 2015.

Armenia joined at the union's launch in January 2015, while Kyrgyzstan became a member later that year. The EAEU has common customs arrangements and coordinates policies in areas such as trade, competition, energy, transport, and agriculture. Its institutions include the Eurasian Economic Commission.

The EAEU is often confused with the Collective Security Treaty Organization, which is a military and security alliance, or the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, a broader political and security grouping. The Commonwealth of Independent States is a separate post-Soviet association with a different membership and purpose.
