What is the name of the tournament in the Tekken series?

The story behind the answer

The tournament in the Tekken series is called the King of Iron Fist Tournament.

The competition is the central recurring event in Tekken’s story. It is generally organized by the Mishima Zaibatsu or one of its leaders, with powerful fighters entering for personal revenge, money, prestige, or control of the company. Each installment changes the tournament’s organizer and circumstances, but the name remains the same.

In the first Tekken, Heihachi Mishima hosts the tournament and offers a major prize, including control of the Mishima Zaibatsu, to anyone capable of defeating him. His son Kazuya wins and takes control, setting up the family conflict that drives much of the series. Later tournaments involve characters such as Jin Kazama, Paul Phoenix, Nina Williams, King, and Hwoarang.

The title is sometimes confused with King of Fighters, a separate fighting-game franchise from SNK. “Iron Fist Championship” and “World Warrior Tournament” are not the official Tekken tournament names. The stored answer is therefore the single canonical choice.
