What is the name of the Tolkien character who becomes king of Gondor as Elessar?

The story behind the answer

Aragorn is the Tolkien character who becomes king of Gondor as Elessar.

Aragorn is introduced in The Lord of the Rings under the name Strider, a Ranger encountered by the Hobbits at Bree. He is the heir of Isildur and belongs to the royal line of Arnor and Gondor, although his identity and claim are initially concealed.

During the War of the Ring, Aragorn helps defend the Free Peoples and accepts the responsibilities connected with his ancestry. After Sauron’s defeat, he is crowned King Elessar Telcontar. The name Elessar means “Elfstone” in Tolkien’s languages and was also used as a royal title.

Aragorn is sometimes mistaken for Boromir, Faramir, or Éomer because all are important human leaders in the story. Boromir and Faramir are sons of Denethor, while Éomer becomes king of Rohan. Aragorn is the figure who unites the restored kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor.
