Cars 2 is the spy-themed sequel released by Pixar in 2011.
The film shifts much of its attention from Lightning McQueen to Mater, who is mistaken for an American secret agent during the World Grand Prix. The international adventure takes the characters to locations including Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London.
John Lasseter directed Cars 2 with Brad Lewis. Its plot combines competitive racing with an espionage story involving an alternative fuel, a group of disguised criminals, and British agents Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell.
Cars 2 was Pixar’s first feature sequel that did not continue the Toy Story series. It received mixed critical reviews compared with the original Cars, but it expanded the franchise’s world and introduced several major recurring characters. Mater’s comic personality is central to the film’s action and misunderstandings.
