Mater joins the spy organization CHROME in Pixar's Cars 2.
CHROME is an intelligence agency whose name is an acronym for Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage. Mater becomes involved after British agent Finn McMissile mistakes him for an American agent during the World Grand Prix events.
The film shifts the franchise toward an international spy adventure. Lightning McQueen competes in races in Japan, Italy, and England, while Mater investigates a conspiracy involving alternative fuel and a group of cars trying to damage the reputation of the fuel.
CHROME is fictional and exists within the Cars universe. The organization is not the same as the World Grand Prix, which is the racing competition that brings McQueen and Mater around the world.
