Mater works with the spy agency CHROME in Pixar’s Cars 2.
CHROME is the fictional intelligence organization that recruits Mater after Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell mistake him for an American agent. Mater’s accidental involvement gives him access to the international conspiracy surrounding the World Grand Prix and Allinol.
The agency’s name is an acronym for Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage. That expanded form is a small detail from the film’s spy-world terminology and is easy to confuse with the names of individual agents.
Finn McMissile is a British secret agent, while Holley Shiftwell is an agent and technical specialist. Mater is not originally a trained spy; his success comes from improvisation, honesty, and the villains’ mistaken assumptions. CHROME is therefore the organization, not a character, vehicle, fuel, or race.
