What is the name of the space-traveling scholar in C.S. Lewis's Space Trilogy?

Elwin Ransom is the space-traveling scholar in C.S. Lewis’s Space Trilogy.

Ransom is the central protagonist of Out of the Silent Planet and returns in the trilogy’s later books, Perelandra and That Hideous Strength. He is a philologist, a scholar whose expertise in language becomes important when he encounters nonhuman cultures and distant worlds. The character’s name and profession reflect Lewis’s interest in language, myth, and the moral consequences of scientific power.

The trilogy is sometimes called the Ransom Trilogy because of his role. It is not set in Narnia, although both series use imaginative worlds to examine moral and spiritual questions. Digory Kirke belongs to the Chronicles of Narnia, Mark Studdock is central to That Hideous Strength, and Orual is the narrator of Till We Have Faces.
