“Real Gone” is the song heard during the opening credits of Pixar’s Cars.
Written by Sheryl Crow, “Real Gone” establishes the film’s energetic road-and-racing atmosphere before the story moves into Lightning McQueen’s Piston Cup competition. Crow also recorded the released version used in connection with the film’s soundtrack.
Cars contains several songs tied to its journey across the American Southwest. “Life Is a Highway,” performed by Rascal Flatts, became especially associated with the movie, but it is used later in the soundtrack rather than serving as the opening-credits song.
Other notable songs include “Our Town,” performed by James Taylor, and “Route 66,” performed by John Mayer. Those titles can make the soundtrack difficult to distinguish from the opening selection, but the opening-credit track is “Real Gone.”
