What is the name of the Sex Pistols' only studio album?

The story behind the answer

The Sex Pistols’ only studio album was Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols, commonly shortened to Never Mind the Bollocks.

Released by Virgin Records on 28 October 1977, the album became one of punk rock’s defining records. It contains major Sex Pistols songs including “Anarchy in the U.K.,” “God Save the Queen,” “Pretty Vacant,” and “Holidays in the Sun.” The band’s aggressive sound, confrontational lyrics, and deliberately provocative image made the record a cultural flashpoint in Britain.

The title itself caused controversy, and the album cover was subject to censorship attempts. During a court case, a linguistics expert argued that “bollocks” was an old English word and, in this context, meant “nonsense.” The court ultimately accepted the album’s legal defense, allowing shops to sell it.

The Sex Pistols released singles, demos, live recordings, and compilations, but Never Mind the Bollocks remained their sole official studio album. The Great Rock ’n’ Roll Swindle, sometimes confused with it, is a soundtrack and compilation rather than a conventional studio album.
