What is the name of the Separatist leader in the prequel trilogy?

The story behind the answer

The Separatist leader in the Star Wars prequel trilogy is Count Dooku, also known by his Sith name, Darth Tyranus. He leads the Confederacy of Independent Systems in its war against the Galactic Republic.

Dooku was once a respected Jedi Master and the apprentice of Yoda. He later became disillusioned with the Republic and left the Jedi Order. After turning to the dark side, he became the apprentice of Darth Sidious, secretly Chancellor Palpatine. Dooku helped organize the Separatist movement and played a hidden role in the creation of the Republic’s clone army.

He is the principal Separatist political figure in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. General Grievous serves as the Separatists’ military commander and leads their droid armies, which is why the two characters are sometimes confused. Dooku’s aristocratic title comes from Serenno, his homeworld.

In Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine orders Anakin Skywalker to kill Dooku, discarding him as part of a plan to replace him with Anakin. Christopher Lee portrayed Dooku in both live-action prequel films.
