What is the name of the secret spy organization in Pixar’s Cars 2?

C.H.R.O.M.E. is the secret spy organization in Pixar’s Cars 2.

The acronym stands for the Central Headquarters for the Retrieval of Military Espionage. It is the agency that recruits Mater after British spy Finn McMissile mistakes him for an American operative. Mater’s accidental involvement drives much of the film’s espionage plot.

Cars 2 shifts the series away from the small-town racing focus of the first film and places Lightning McQueen and Mater in an international adventure. The story visits locations including Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London while combining spy-movie conventions with the established car characters.

Mater is not actually a trained agent, which creates the film’s central comic misunderstanding. His improvisation nevertheless helps uncover the conspiracy involving the World Grand Prix and an alternative fuel. The organization’s stylized acronym is therefore an important plot term, not a racing league or car manufacturer.
