The Animus is the device that lets Assassin’s Creed characters relive genetic memories.
In the modern storyline, a person enters the Animus and experiences memories inherited through their genetic lineage. The machine converts those memories into an interactive simulation, allowing the user to explore the lives of historical ancestors while remaining physically in the present.
The Animus provides the series’ main narrative link between modern characters and historical protagonists such as Altaïr, Ezio, and Edward Kenway. It also explains why a contemporary player can experience events from different centuries within one connected franchise.
Eagle Vision is an ability that helps characters perceive information, not a machine. The Apple of Eden is a Piece of Eden with powerful effects, while the Bleeding Effect describes an Animus-related condition in which users retain skills or traits from an ancestor. These terms belong to the same mythology but are not interchangeable.
