The sea turtle that helps Marlin and Dory is named Crush.
Crush is a green sea turtle who encounters Marlin and Dory while they are unconscious after escaping a forest of jellyfish. He is traveling with a group of turtles through the East Australian Current, a powerful current that carries them toward the waters near Sydney.
Crush welcomes the two fish into the turtle group and talks with Marlin about parenting. His relaxed “dude” personality and willingness to let his son Squirt explore provide a direct contrast to Marlin’s anxious, controlling approach to raising Nemo. Crush’s advice helps Marlin become more confident in Nemo’s ability to cope with danger.
Crush also helps establish the route that leads Marlin and Dory toward Australia, although they later become lost and are swallowed by a blue whale. The character appears again in Finding Dory, traveling through the California Current. Director Andrew Stanton voiced Crush in both films, after his temporary story-reel performance proved popular during testing.
