What is the name of the rival oceanographer played by Jeff Goldblum in Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic?

Jeff Goldblum plays rival oceanographer Alistair Hennessey in Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

Hennessey is a successful, polished marine explorer whose rivalry with Steve Zissou fuels much of the film’s comic tension. Steve, played by Bill Murray, leads the documentary crew known as Team Zissou and becomes increasingly determined to confront the jaguar shark he believes killed his friend Esteban du Plantier.

Goldblum’s character is not part of Team Zissou. He represents the more commercially successful and socially confident side of oceanographic celebrity, contrasting with Steve’s fading reputation and improvised expedition.

The 2004 film combines maritime adventure, deadpan comedy, and family drama. Its cast also includes Owen Wilson as Ned Plimpton, Cate Blanchett as Jane Winslett-Richardson, and Willem Dafoe as Klaus Daimler.
