Kanto is the region where the original Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow games are set.
Kanto is the first major region introduced in the Pokémon video-game series. It contains familiar locations such as Pallet Town, Viridian City, Pewter City, Cerulean City, and the Indigo Plateau. The player begins in Pallet Town and travels through the region while collecting Gym Badges.
The region's Pokédex contains the original 151 species, including Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, Mewtwo, and Mew. Kanto's eight Pokémon Gyms culminate in a challenge against the Elite Four and the Champion.
Kanto is sometimes confused with Johto because the two regions are geographically connected and appear together in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. Kanto was introduced first, however, and serves as the setting for Generation I. The name also resembles Japan's real-world Kantō region, though the Pokémon setting uses its own fictional geography and locations.
