Galar is the region introduced in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
The two role-playing games were developed by Game Freak and released for Nintendo Switch on November 15, 2019. Their story follows a young Trainer competing in the Galar League’s Gym Challenge.
Galar draws visual inspiration from the United Kingdom, with industrial cities, rural landscapes, castles, and a large open area called the Wild Area. The region’s Champion is Leon, who is presented as an undefeated title holder at the start of the adventure.
Sword and Shield also introduced Dynamax and Gigantamax, mechanics that temporarily enlarge Pokémon during battles. Their expansion pass added the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra in 2020.
