Kanto is the region featured in Pokémon Red and Blue.
Kanto is the setting for the first-generation Pokémon adventure. Players begin in Pallet Town, travel through cities and routes, challenge eight Gym Leaders, and ultimately compete against the Elite Four and Champion. The region contains the original 151 Pokémon and serves as the foundation for the franchise’s world-building.
The name Kanto was inspired by the real Kantō region of Japan, which includes Tokyo and surrounding areas. Several locations in the game reflect that geographic inspiration, although the Pokémon version is a fictional adventure map rather than a literal recreation.
Kanto is sometimes confused with Johto because the two regions appear together in Pokémon Gold and Silver. In those games, players first explore Johto and later unlock Kanto. The original Red and Blue journey, however, takes place entirely in Kanto.
