Which system was Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire first released for?

The story behind the answer

Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire were first released for the Game Boy Advance.

Game Freak developed the role-playing games, and Nintendo and The Pokémon Company published them. They debuted in Japan on November 21, 2002, as the first main-series Pokémon games for Nintendo’s 32-bit handheld system.

Ruby and Sapphire introduced the Hoenn region and 135 new Pokémon, including the legendary Groudon and Kyogre. They also added abilities, double battles, Pokémon Contests, and weather effects, giving the series new strategic and visual possibilities.

The games are sometimes associated with the Nintendo DS because later Pokémon titles appeared on that system, but Ruby and Sapphire belong to the Game Boy Advance generation. Their remakes, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, were released for Nintendo 3DS in 2014, more than a decade after the originals.
