What is the name of the reality-hopping device used by Rick?

The reality-hopping device used by Rick is the portal gun. Rick Sanchez uses it to open green portals between dimensions, planets, and other locations across the multiverse.

The gun is one of Rick's signature inventions and lets him travel almost instantly, although its operation depends on portal fluid and Rick's scientific skill. Portals are central to the show's premise because Rick frequently takes Morty on adventures far beyond their home dimension.

A common mix-up is confusing the portal gun with the spaceship or Rick's flying car. Those vehicles provide transportation within a location or through space, while the portal gun specifically creates gateways between places and realities. The device has also been affected by limits on portal fluid and by the actions of the Galactic Federation and the Central Finite Curve.

The portal gun is therefore more than a generic teleportation device: it is Rick's interdimensional travel tool and one of the symbols most closely associated with Rick and Morty.
