What is the name of the railway viaduct that is the world's longest bridge, according to Guinness World Records?
Answer
Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge
Answer
Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge
The Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge is the world's longest bridge, with a total length of about 164.8 kilometres.
It is a railway viaduct on China's Beijing–Shanghai high-speed railway. The bridge opened in 2011, when the high-speed line entered service, and carries trains across the broad lowlands between Nanjing and Shanghai.
Much of the structure consists of elevated sections built over rice fields, canals, rivers, lakes, and other soft or flood-prone ground. Raising the railway helped keep the line level and reduced disruption to land and waterways.
The bridge is sometimes confused with the world's longest sea-crossing bridge, which is a different category. Danyang–Kunshan is primarily a land viaduct, although part of its route crosses Yangcheng Lake.
