What is the name of the racehorse in the Sherlock Holmes story 'Silver Blaze'?

The story behind the answer

The racehorse in Sherlock Holmes's story “Silver Blaze” is named Silver Blaze.

Silver Blaze is the celebrated thoroughbred owned by Colonel Ross and trained by John Straker. The horse disappears from the King's Pyland stable on the eve of an important race, while Straker is found dead on Dartmoor. Holmes and Dr. Watson travel to Devon to investigate both the missing horse and the apparent murder.

The mystery turns on several clues, including the famous “curious incident of the dog in the night-time.” The dog made no sound because the midnight visitor was someone it knew: Straker himself, who had taken Silver Blaze out to injure him secretly and manipulate the race. The horse panicked and fatally kicked its trainer.

Silver Blaze is eventually found hidden in a barn, with its distinctive white markings covered by dye. Holmes waits until after the Wessex Cup, which Silver Blaze wins, before revealing the horse's whereabouts. King's Pyland is the stable, not the horse's name.
