What is the name of the race held across several countries in Pixar’s Cars 2?

The story behind the answer

The World Grand Prix is the international race held across several countries in Pixar’s Cars 2.

Organized by billionaire entrepreneur Miles Axlerod, the World Grand Prix is designed to promote Allinol, a new alternative fuel. The competition brings elite racers together for three major events: in Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London. Lightning McQueen enters as a celebrated champion, while Mater becomes entangled in a spy mission connected to the race.

The event gives Cars 2 a much broader setting than the original film. Instead of concentrating on Radiator Springs and American racing, the story moves through Japan, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Each location has its own track design, landmarks, and supporting vehicles.

The World Grand Prix should not be confused with the Piston Cup. The Piston Cup is the American stock-car championship central to McQueen’s career in Cars and Cars 3, whereas the World Grand Prix is the fictional international competition created specifically for Cars 2.
