What is the name of the race featured in Pixar’s Cars 2 World Grand Prix?

The World Grand Prix is the international race featured in Pixar’s Cars 2.

The event is created by Miles Axlerod to demonstrate Allinol, a new alternative fuel. It takes Lightning McQueen to three major race locations: Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London. The international format gives Cars 2 a broader scale than the first film’s American racing story.

Lightning enters after Francesco Bernoulli challenges him, while Mater accompanies him and becomes entangled in the spy plot. The races are therefore both sporting contests and settings for the film’s mystery and action sequences.

The World Grand Prix should not be confused with the Piston Cup. The Piston Cup is the domestic stock-car championship central to Cars, while the World Grand Prix is a special international event introduced in Cars 2. Francesco Bernoulli is Lightning’s principal racing rival during this competition.
