Jackson Storm becomes Lightning McQueen’s chief rival in Pixar’s Cars 3.
Jackson Storm is a sleek, modern race car whose advanced training, data analysis, and aerodynamic design make him part of a new generation of competitors. His rapid success convinces sponsors and commentators that older racers such as Lightning McQueen may no longer be competitive.
Storm’s rise creates the central conflict of Cars 3. Lightning tries several training methods at the Rust-eze Racing Center, but his struggle is not only physical; he must decide whether his future depends on beating younger racers or passing on what he learned from Doc Hudson.
Storm is voiced by Armie Hammer. He is different from Chick Hicks, Lightning’s antagonist in the original Cars, and from Cal Weathers, a racer who appears among the younger competitors. Cruz Ramirez ultimately defeats Jackson Storm in the Florida 500 after Lightning gives her the opportunity to race.
