Kanto is the Pokémon region where the first 151 species are encountered.
Kanto is the setting of Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow, as well as their later remakes Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. Its geography includes towns, forests, caves, routes, and the famous eight Gym challenge.
The region is based broadly on Japan's real-world Kantō region, which includes Tokyo and surrounding prefectures. Many locations in the game use names connected to colors, including Viridian City, Pewter City, Cerulean City, and Vermilion City.
Kanto's Pokédex begins with Bulbasaur and ends with Mew. It also introduced the series' original Pokémon Professor, Professor Oak, and the first eight Gym Leaders. Kanto is sometimes confused with Johto because both regions can be visited in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, but Johto is the second-generation region and introduces additional species.
