The Pokémon region based on Japan’s Kantō area is Kanto.
Kanto is the setting of Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow and is the first region introduced in the main series. It contains locations such as Pallet Town, Viridian City, Cerulean City, and Saffron City, along with the Indigo Plateau Pokémon League.
The region’s name is written Kanto in English, without the macron used in the real-world Japanese region’s romanization. Its geography loosely mirrors the real Kantō region around Tokyo, although Pokémon locations and routes are fictionalized for gameplay.
Kanto is often confused with Johto because the two regions appear together in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. Kanto is the first region, while Johto is the second-generation region. The name also appears in the anime, manga, and later games whenever stories revisit the original setting.
