Which Pokémon games introduced Pokémon breeding and the ability for Pokémon to hold items?
Answer
Pokémon Gold and Silver
Answer
Pokémon Gold and Silver
Pokémon Gold and Silver introduced Pokémon breeding and the ability for Pokémon to hold items.
Released for the Game Boy Color, the second-generation games added systems that deepened both collection and battle strategy. Two compatible Pokémon at the Pokémon Day Care could produce an Egg, which would hatch into a young Pokémon. The offspring generally belonged to the mother’s species, while some moves could be inherited from the father.
Held items created another new tactical layer. Berries could restore health or cure status conditions, while other items boosted attacks or affected battles in specific ways. The games also introduced the real-time clock, day-and-night events, and the Steel and Dark types.
Breeding should not be confused with evolution: breeding creates an Egg, while evolution changes an existing Pokémon into another species. Also, not every Pokémon can breed; many Legendary and Mythical Pokémon belong to groups that cannot produce Eggs.
