Mumble is the penguin protagonist in the 2006 animated film Happy Feet.
The film follows Mumble, an emperor penguin born with an inability to sing the individual heartsong expected by his colony. Instead, he expresses himself through tap dancing, which initially makes him an outsider among the penguins of Emperor Land.
Mumble’s story combines a coming-of-age adventure with an environmental theme. After being separated from his colony, he encounters other penguins and investigates the disappearance of fish from Antarctic waters. The film uses fictional characters while drawing on real emperor penguin behavior, including their breeding colonies and dependence on marine food sources.
Elijah Wood provided Mumble’s speaking voice in the English-language version. Happy Feet was directed by George Miller and became notable for combining computer animation with motion-captured dance performances. A sequel, Happy Feet Two, was released in 2011.
