Which penguin species has a bright yellow eye patch and is also called hoiho?

The story behind the answer

The yellow-eyed penguin has a bright yellow eye stripe and is also called hoiho.

Hoiho is a Māori name commonly translated as “noise-maker” or “shouter.” The species is native to New Zealand, where it breeds on the South Island, Stewart Island and nearby subantarctic islands.

Yellow-eyed penguins are notable for nesting in secluded vegetation rather than forming the dense, highly social colonies associated with several Antarctic penguins. Adults have a pale yellow head and a conspicuous yellow band running from the eyes toward the back of the head.

They are sometimes confused with Fiordland penguins, another New Zealand species. Fiordland penguins have yellow eyebrow feathers and a different facial pattern, whereas the yellow-eyed penguin’s continuous yellow eye stripe is its most recognizable feature.
