What is the name of the Patagonian glacier famous for frequent ice calving?

The story behind the answer

The Patagonian glacier famous for frequent ice calving is the Perito Moreno Glacier.

Perito Moreno lies in Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina’s Santa Cruz Province. It is fed by the Southern Patagonian Ice Field and ends in Lago Argentino. Unlike many glaciers that are steadily retreating, its front has historically remained comparatively stable, making its dramatic break-up events especially notable.

The glacier periodically advances across a narrow part of the lake, forming an ice barrier between the main lake and Brazo Rico. Water pressure can build behind the barrier until the ice bridge collapses in a spectacular rupture. These events are often called calving or glacier rupture, although the largest collapses involve the failure of the ice dam itself.

The glacier is named after Francisco Moreno, an Argentine explorer and geographer. It is sometimes confused with nearby Patagonian glaciers such as Grey, Viedma, and Upsala, but Perito Moreno is the one most closely associated with spectacular, recurring ice break-ups.
