Kanto is the original Pokémon region explored in Pokémon Red and Blue.
The games’ player character travels across Kanto while challenging eight Gym Leaders, collecting badges, and eventually facing the Elite Four and the Pokémon League Champion. The region contains locations such as Pallet Town, Viridian City, Saffron City, and Cinnabar Island.
Kanto’s design is loosely based on Japan’s real-world Kantō region. Its geography helped establish the standard structure later used by many Pokémon games: towns connected by routes, caves, forests, water areas, Gyms, and a climactic League challenge.
Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh are also Pokémon regions, but they belong to later generations. Johto first appeared in Gold and Silver, Hoenn in Ruby and Sapphire, and Sinnoh in Diamond and Pearl.
