What is the name of the New Mexico mountain associated with Georgia O'Keeffe's ashes?

The story behind the answer

Cerro Pedernal is the New Mexico mountain associated with Georgia O'Keeffe's ashes. After her death, her ashes were scattered from the summit of the flat-topped mountain she often painted.

Pedernal rises near Abiquiú and Ghost Ranch, places that became central to O'Keeffe's life and work. Its distinctive shape appears in several of her paintings, although she interpreted the landscape through her own simplified and sometimes highly abstract visual language.

O'Keeffe reportedly described Pedernal as her private mountain and joked that it was the only thing she could take with her. Her connection to it was both personal and artistic, not merely a matter of geographic convenience.

The mountain is sometimes confused with other well-known New Mexico landmarks such as Shiprock or Mount Taylor. Cerro Pedernal is particularly recognizable for its isolated, level summit and its direct association with O'Keeffe.
