Answer
Penglai Island
What is the name of the mythical island paradise in Taoism? Penglai Island is the legendary island paradise associated with immortals.
Penglai is usually portrayed as a mystical island or mountain in the eastern sea, somewhere beyond the ordinary human world. Chinese tales describe it as a residence of immortals, filled with magnificent palaces, precious materials, and trees associated with longevity.
The legend is connected with the three sacred mountains believed to lie in the Bohai Sea. During the Qin dynasty, the ruler Qin Shi Huang reportedly sent expeditions in search of these lands and the elixir of life. The magician Xu Fu is traditionally associated with one such voyage.
Penglai is not the same as Kunlun, another sacred mountain complex in Chinese mythology, nor Yaochi, the Queen Mother of the West’s celestial pool or residence. In later traditions, Penglai became especially associated with the Eight Immortals, who are said to visit or inhabit the island. In Japan, the name appears as Hōrai.
