Sora is the main protagonist of the Kingdom Hearts series. He is a cheerful boy from Destiny Islands whose journey begins when creatures called the Heartless destroy his home and separate him from his friends Riku and Kairi.
After the attack, Sora obtains the Keyblade and arrives in Traverse Town. There he teams up with Donald Duck and Goofy, who are searching for their missing king, Mickey Mouse. Sora’s own goal is to find Riku and Kairi, but he soon becomes responsible for protecting the worlds from the Heartless and other forces of darkness.
Riku, Kairi, Roxas, and several other characters are central to the broader Kingdom Hearts story, which can make the protagonist question confusing. Roxas is Sora’s Nobody, while Riku is his closest rival and friend. Kairi is one of Sora’s childhood friends and a Princess of Heart. Sora, however, remains the principal hero and playable lead of the main series, beginning with the first game in 2002.
